If you are in the process of a disability application with the VA, a nexus letter may be helpful in an initial or appeal application.
A nexus letter is an evidence-based document prepared by a competent and credible medical professional that helps to establish a connection between the veteran’s current symptoms and their military service.
Because this is "evaluation" and not "treatment", you'll meet with a qualified provider who can conduct the evaluation and who will give their expert opinion, but you will not be able to continue treatment with that provider.
In order to request a nexus letter:
(1) Please complete this referral form: https://hushforms.com/j.northrop-8440. Our staff will then reach out to you to fully explain the process, add you to our system, and send out our consent for evaluation and self-report measures.
(2) You will need to send in all relevant records for review by the evaluator, specifically any and all VA Decision Letters, Mental Health diagnoses/records, lay statements, and any other documentation that may be related to the veteran's mental health and/or disability claim. Please also complete any requested self-report measures that have are included in your Client Portal.
(4) Once we receive your documents and your measures are completed, our evaluator, Mark Painter, will review all information and will then reach out to you to schedule the nexus evaluation session or request additional information if needed.
(5) Payment in the amount of $600 will be required in order to schedule the nexus evaluation session.
(6) The veteran will attend the nexus evaluation session in person at the Dallas location of The Northrop Connection. Please allocate 2 hours for this appointment. During this evaluation, the evaluator will ask specific questions about your military service including events surrounding your disability claim and to best determine if your present mental health symptoms are "more likely than not" connected to your military service.
(7) The evaluator will provide you with the completed nexus letter within 2 weeks of the evaluation. The letter will be given directly to you, and you can decide how next to proceed with your disability claim. You may sign a Release of Information to have the nexus letter sent to any other necessary parties, such as your attorney or advocate.
Please note that this is not a service that is covered by any insurance plan or VA contract.
